Call me old fashioned, but I have always been in the camp that if
the music is not being made by an instrument, I'm not interested.
Hence, I've been a long time electronic music abstainer, which is weird
because I am a huge perfectionist, and electronic music has the potential to be... well... perfect... at least from a timing perspective.
I
can't even count the number of times I have said to people "it sounds
cool... but it's perfect because a computer quantized it and MADE it
perfect. Show me someone playing that on an INSTRUMENT1, and I'll be impressed."
Today my request was answered. The perfect marriage between human musicianship and electronic music.
KJ
Sawka is a professional drummer and programmer who creates one man
drum 'n bass shows with a drum kit and his samplers. You may have heard him before drumming for Almost-American-Idol Blake Lewis. He is able to do
something I have never heard done before; he can play the most
complicated drum 'n bass lines with incredible accuracy..... for 3
hours... while working a sequencer... ALONE.
I'm hooked.
I am open to being sucked into the world of electronic music, I just need more stuff like this! Please, if you have recommendations, send them my way!
1 I know, I know... A computer CAN be an instrument... I am just not completely convinced yet.
